[July 1973 Vol II No 6 page 6]PAGE 6 THE HOOSIER NEWS JULY, 1973AUTO ELECTRICAL AND IGNITION SYSTEMS TRAINING CONDUCTED HERE BY INDIANA VOCATIONAL TECHINCAL COLLEGE[photograph]Instructor Harry Kendall of Indiana Vocational Technical College, shown at right above, taught the 16 hour course to nine of our Maintenance Mechanics (Auto).[photograph]Emphasis in the course was placed on utilization of testing equipment and troubleshooting automotive electrical charging systems.ELECTRICIAN FRED OWEN RETIRES AFTER 33 YEARS AT INDIANA[photograph]Mr. Fred Owen, electrician in the Maintenance Department, retired May 31, 1973 after having served 33 years of employment at Indiana Army Ammunition Plant.Fred came to the plant October 15, 1940 and worked on construction during the months the plant was being built. He was then employed as an electrician for DuPont during the World War n years. His work was mostly in Power House No. 1 areas.At the end of World War II, Mr. Owen transferred to civil service and retained employment on the plant in his capacity as an electrician. He was again employed by the operating contractor, DuPont, during the Korean conflict. He was employed for eight months by Goodyear Corporation during 1959 and remained as an employee of Liberty Powder (later changed to Olin Corporation) from November 1959 until May 1, 1972 when ICI America took over plant operations. Fred has remained in the craft for the past year and took his retirement effective May 31, 1973.Talking of his enjoyable years of working at this plant, he recalls the many life-time friends he has made here. Debra is the daughter of Mrs. JEAN CONRAD, Igniter 4, First Shift, of New Salisbury, Indiana and Mr. Harold Conrad of Milltown, Indiana. Mr. Bachman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bachman of Corydon.Mr. ROBERT ROSS and Mr. LARRY WESLEY were both recently promoted. Mr. Ross was Supervisor on the Second Shift in the LAP Department; promoted to Product Supervisor over Load Lines 5 and 6. Mr. Wesley was Foreman; promoted to Supervisor on Second Shift replacing Mr. Ross.PAT ALEXANDER, Production Line Clerk on LL5 and LL6, has interesting news to share with you. Her brother Charles Smith has returned home on a two week leave from theCAROLYN, contd.Air Force. He is stationed in Florida. Pat recently attended the graduation of her brother and sister. Daryl Smith graduated from Shawnee High School and lisa Smith fom Male High School. Lisa plans to attend Kentucky State University this fall. Daryl hasnt decided on what school he will attend at the time of this writing.GENEVA NELSON, Production Line Clerk at Building 2533, attended the graduation of two of her nieces. Jan McNary and Audrey Rondo of Shawnee High School. They will both attend the University of Louisville this fall. Geneva also informed the paper that she plans to go to the Bahamas during the two week shutdown in July. You LUCKY GIRL.Load Line 4 welcomes B. BROOKS back to work after being on sick leave.Speedy recovery wishes to MARY JENKINS, Load Line 3, who is in Clark County Hospital.Get well wishes to J. SWARTZ who is in the hospital.Mr. H. FUQUA was in an accident over the Memorial Day holiday.
