Taken in 1917 or 18, this picture shows the results of an Elkhart Carnegie Library program. The participants constructed birdhouses which they proudly display here on the front steps of the library. The participants included: (front row from left to right) starting with the fourth girl Julia Seeberger, Lois Gemberling, and Esther Belt; (second row) Lois Heckleman, Esther Boyer, Norma Ullery, Florence Bender; (third row) starting with the second boy Warren Culp, George Pontius, Gladys Duff, and Ben Melvin is second from the end; (back row) Ray walters, Alva Bricker, Frank Shaver, unknown, Cleo Mann, Thelma Lloyd, unknown, Marlin Meisner, and Gerhart Schutes. Others not named have not been identified. |
