Description: |
During the U.S. Civil War this hat was authorized for use in 1858, and nicknamed after the future Confederate general who sat on the board to choose the style. While this fine example has most of the trimmings used for dress occasions, like the ostrich plume, many men wore the hat plain. In fact, because it was made of felt it was easily shaped to suit the wearer’s taste. The light blue cord signified the wearer as a member of the infantry. |
