Description: |
This paper lantern lights up the night! Made about 1940, this lantern follows an old tradition of providing light to invite friends and family to the house for an autumn party. The tradition of carving turnips for use as lamps began in Ireland and the British Isles. In the United States, residents used pumpkins instead. As companies created new decorations, lanterns like this cat appeared. |
