Description: |
German writings from the 1500s contain the first mention of the Easter Bunny, a traditional symbol of Springtime and rebirth. The first food Easter bunnies were made in Germany during the early 1800s and were baked pastry bunnies with sugar toppings. Together with gummy candies shaped like eggs, which is where jelly beans came from, they were hidden in straw nests in secluded areas of the house or in the garden for children to find. This American bunny candy container probably dates from the 1940s. |
