Description: |
According to Greek Mythology, the Trojan War was fought between Greece and Troy. The war started when the Trojan prince Paris abducted Helen, wife of Menelaus of Sparta. Surrendering, the Greek soldiers sailed away and left a wooden horse and one Greek soldier named Sinon. He deceitfully convinced the people of Troy that he was left behind because his people despised him. He persuaded the Trojans to accept the horse as an offering to the goddess Athena. Secretly, though, a small group of Greek soldiers hid inside the wooden horse and the ships that appeared to sail away were actually waiting to surprise and attack the city of Troy. The wooden horse was taken inside the city walls and the Greek soldiers attacked and destroyed Troy. The Trojan War probably reflected a real war (c.1200 BC) between Greece and Trojas, possibly over control of trade through the Dardanelles, a narrow strait in northwestern Turkey connecting the Aegean Sea with the Sea of Marmara. These toys were made in Greece about 1986. |
