Description: |
The Incas, who conquered all the Andean civilizations in the 15th century, depicted their lives, accomplishments and parts of their culture on large wooden cups called qeros (keros). The ruling class and nobility from Cusco, the capital of the Incan Empire, used these cups for drinking a maize beer for festive and ceremonial occasions. This particular qero features painted geometric symbols called tocapu and probably dates from after the Spanish conquest, the16th – 17th centuries. |
