Description: |
This prayer book was used by a shaman of northern Thailand during wedding and funeral ceremonies. Nearly all traditional villages and nomadic mountain villages in northern Thailand have a headman who performs most of the political and social functions. He is usually a village elder or shaman who communicates with the spiritual world during ceremonies. Most villages practice rites that are meant to appease spirits, during which the shaman determines the problem, prescribes a solution, and performs a ritual to resolve the crisis. |
