Description: |
Ever since Barbie arrived on the fashion doll scene in 1959, she has been one of the world’s best-selling toys. She was the creation of Mattel’s Ruth Handler, who watched her daughter Barbara pretending to be grown-up while playing with adult-type paper dolls. Ruth imagined a doll with interchangeable outfits and accessories. When the first Barbies were produced, two-thirds were blond, and the rest were brunette like this one! In 1961 a male doll named Ken was introduced as Barbie’s boyfriend. |
