Laverne costume

Description: Set in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the late 1950s, Laverne and Shirley featured two twenty-something single women exploring the world around them. Boldly their theme song proclaimed, there is nothing we wont try, never heard the word impossible, this time, theres no stopping us, were gonna do it! Laverne and Shirley both worked in a beer bottling factory and shared an apartment. A comedy, the show relied upon situational humor and physical gags to entertain its audience. Neighbors Lenny and Squiggy provided much of the humor always dropping into the girl’s apartment calling “Hello!” The show also dealt with serious issues of workers’ rights at the plant to animal rights at the pound. From 1976 to 1983, Laverne and Shirley romped through life surrounded by a cast of supporting characters including Laverne’s father Frank De Fazio who ran the Pizza Bowl, his girlfriend and later wife Mrs. Edna Babish De Fazio; and Shirley’s on and off again boyfriend Carmine. Broadcast during the women’s rights movement of the 1970s, the prime time show portrayed 1950s women as smart and witty with ideas worthy of consideration. This outfit, display’s Laverne’s big cursive “L”- the signature for all of her clothes.
