Homemade Monopoly board

Description: Be a millionaire! Monopoly was invented on a table cloth in Atlantic City, NJ during the Great Depression. When the first games were sold by Parker Brothers in 1935 onwards, many Americans were enduring financial hardships. Foreclosures, bankruptcy and even evictions were harsh yet common events that many experienced. Under these conditions, a fantasy world where you could be a real estate magnet or a robber baron became very popular. The maker of this version chose made some changes to the Parker Brothers version. Several squares mention sightseeing and vacation activities like fishing. In one corner the game collects $15 dollars for poppies. Poppies are a symbol of Remembrance Day or Armistice Day which commemorates the end of World War I. Many European countries, the United States and Canada observe this holiday. Following World War II, the US changed the name to Veteran’s Day so that the holiday honors all men and women who served in military and peacekeeping missions.
