Pelé, named Edson Arantes do Nascimento, was born on October 23, 1940 in Tres Coracos, Brazil. Best known as an outstanding soccer player for the Santos Football Club, he played on three Brazilian World Cup winning teams (1958, 1962, and 1970). After retiring from play in 1974, he embarked on a new mission, to “make soccer truly popular in the United States. During 1975-76 he played in the United States for the New York Cosmos. This lunchbox was produced while Pelé played for the Cosmos. Not only a soccer player, Pelé is also an author, actor, composer, businessman, and activist for UNICEF. |
