Description: |
Too soft and easily scratched to be a gemstone, calcite is still an important mineral economically. Much of the stone used in building highways and in monument construction is limestone-which has as its base ingredient calcium carbonate, or calcite. The crystals of this mineral come in various forms and colors. This particular specimen is known as “Dog-Tooth Calcite” because of its pointed, canine like appearance. |
