Description: |
During the 1930s, Hillis Howie led an expedition of Indianapolis children throughout the western United States to investigate the wildlife and plants of the region. During these Prairie Treks, campers learned to identify birds and animals, pan for gold, and make plaster casts of dinosaur footprints. Using “Cottonwood Gulch” in northwest New Mexico as a base camp, campers traveled throughout the west panning for gold or learning about prehistoric Native American cultures. |
