Spectacled caiman

Description: A member of the crocodilia order, the spectacled caiman can be found in South America from Venezuela to south of the Amazon River basin. These animals are effective predators that prey on many types of vertebrate (backbone) & invertebrate (no backbone) animals. The wild population of this animal has been reduced dramatically due to the tourist trade. Many of these creatures are caught and sold as exotic pets or stuffed and then sold in gift shops in South America.
