Description: |
This semi-aquatic little animal can be found in the lakes and rivers of Eastern Australia and Tasmania. It feeds mainly on the bottom, looking for crustaceans, frogs, larvae, and occasionally plants, which if finds by using it’s sensitive bill. Its strong feet are webbed to help it swim, and the males have a spur on each hind ankle to deliver poison to an attacker or rival males. The poison will not kill a human, but can be very painful. |
