Description: |
In 1927 Charles A. Lindberg made the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean from New York, New York to Paris, France in his monoplane the Spirit of St. Louis. This historic flight took place just 25 years after the first successful attempts to fly by the Wright Brothers. This toy replica of the Spirit of St. Louis monoplane is one of many souvenir toys created to celebrate his historic flight. Lindberg’s famous flight ultimately paved the way for commercial airline travel. He became an overnight celebrity and was named Time Magazine’s first Man of the Year. In addition to piloting airlines, he worked to design an artificial heart. |
