Description: |
Currently about 5,000 species of dragonflies and damselflies are known. Experts guess that there are probably between 5,500 and 6,500 species in total. Most temperate-zone (warm in the summer, cold in the winter, and moderate in the spring and fall) species live as adults less than a month, though some species can live as long as six months. This particular specimen is from China, and lived with the dinosaurs during the Cretaceous. |
