Letter from George William Curtis to May Wright Sewall.

Description: Curtis regrets being unable to attend the dinner for Susan B. Anthonys birthday, stating that she deserves every honor for her faithfulness to the cause of womens rights.George William Curtis was an American man of letters and editor of Harpers Weekly who strongly influenced public opinion through writing and lecturing. His causes included emancipation; civil rights and social equality for African-Americans, Native Americans, and women; civil service reform; public education; and environmental conservation. He was also a member of the Brook Farm Community as a young man.
