Description: This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt:1. Caller asking if 4511 West 16th Street is outside the Indianapolis city limits. 2. Direct line from Western Electric to dispatcher center, caller asks for signal number. 3. Firefighter asks someone at car 10 to call him at his home. 4. Dispatcher is called away to talk about computers. 5. 310 North Capital and New York Streets, major fire reported in apartment house. 6. Fire reported at Senate and New York Street. 7. ADT alarm at American Paper Stock Company, 320 West Michigan Street, multiple engine companies dispatched. 8. Dispatcher does locations checks for several truck and engine companies around the city. 9. IFD caller Kemper to dispatcher Ernie, with information from Chief Russell about changes to fatality identification procedure when making a request for a coroner. It will no longer be necessary to identify the race of a victim when requesting a coroner. IFD caller mentions that this has been unofficial policy since May 1969 following a directive letter to the department on this point, and agree it�s unnecessary information. 10. Firefighter calling for information on a fire that is occurring close to his mother�s home. The dispatcher does not have any information to give him.
