Pipe Organ Rally, Bethel A.M.E. Church, 1907

Description: Bethel A.M.E. Church held a fundraising rally in 1907 to raise One Mile of Pennies for a pipe organ. They created this pledge card, which had a grid for collecting one yard, or 288 pennies. At the time G.H. Shaffer was Pastor at Bethel, with Edward Smoot serving as secretary and L.M. Porter as Treasurer. Amus Thompsons signature lists him as the collector for this card, and Dr. J.H. Ward, is printed as the Chariman of the Business Mens Comittee of the church.
The Bethel A.M.E. Church Collection was funded by a 2016 grant from LSTA. The digital partnership was a collaboration between IHS, IUPUI University Library (www.ulib.iupui.edu/digitalscholarship), and Bethel A.M.E. Church.
