Description: |
Two horses are pulling a sleigh. People are standing on the sidewalks and in the street. Men are wearing 3/4 length coats and broad-brimmed hats. Women are wearing shawls. Wooden fences enclose some of the yards. Sunshine coming from the left side of the painting casts shadows on the snow. Gray clouds are in the sky on the right side of the painting. Cranstone and his brother visited relatives in Richmond, Indiana, from December 1859-January 1860. Upon his return to England, Cranstone used his sketches to produce detailed watercolor and oil paintings. Exhibited as part of "Treasures from the Collections - Celebrating 175 Years: 1830-2005."
