Description: |
The bronze medallion commemorates the Burgess family, who operated their Delaware County farm from 1840 to 1940. The original statehouse in Corydon, Indiana, is shown in the center. The date 1830 marks the founding of the Indiana Historical Society. In 1947 the Indiana Historical Society and Purdue University introduced the Centennial Farms project, a venture to identify and honor Hoosier families who had owned their farms for one hundred years or more. By its completion in 1951, the program had honored more than 1,600 families. Exhibited as part of Treasures from the Collections - Celebrating 175 Years: 1830-2005. Third rotation. |
