Indianapolis 500 Mile Race Field and Officials, 1947

Description: The 1947 field and officials pose on the front straightaway with the Borg-Warner Trophy. The sterling silver trophy, awarded since 1936, has a bas-relief profile of every winner. Also visible in the photo are the remaining 650 yards of bricks, by this time most of the bricks had been covered with a series of asphalt patches. This section remained until 1961, when the entire track was paved with asphalt, except for a three-foot section of bricks across the start-finish line.
