Fairbanks Nomination Notification Ceremony, 1916

Description: A crowd has gathered to witness Charles W. Fairbanks receive notification from the Republican party that he has received the Vice-Presidential nomination along side Presidential nominee Charles Evans Hughes, a position he had previously filled for Teddy Roosevelt. It was held at his home on North Meridian Street. The man standing is ex-Govornor Adolph Eberhart of Minnesota. Indianapolis Public Utilities Chairman Albert Lieber also addressed the crowd, as well as Senator Lawrence Yates Sherman of Illinois, who is seated next to Fairbanks at the right of the platform. Fairbanks would deliver a speech that was highly critical of incumbent Woodrow Wilsons foreign policies, but his party would ultimately lose the Presidency.
The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order.
