Description: |
Group photo of the International Typographical Union Convention, held in Indianapolis on August 8-13, 1927, including the Indianapolis Typographical Union Band. Founded in 1852, Indianapolis became the headquarters for the union in 1888, where it stayed for 73 years. At this time, President Charles P. Howard presided over the union. This convention was held at the Van Camp Mansion, built by Frank Van Camp of Van Camps Pork & Beans, located at 2820 North Meridian. The lawn of the home became known as Typographical Terrace in 1925 after the mansion became the headquarters for the union. The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order. |
