Description: |
The Thirtieth Consecutive United Mine Workers of America Convention, held on Monument Circle. The union formed in 1890 and remains active today. At this time it was under the direction of President John L. Lewis, who controlled the union from 1920 to 1960. The organization was on the front lines of the battle for safe work conditions and benefits for mine workers. Also present was the United Mine Workers Monongah Band, local number 1643. The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order. |
