Headquarters at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Circa 1910

Description: Fort Benjamin Harrison was established as an Indiana National Guard training site in June of 1904 in Lawrence Township of Marion County. During the summer of 1910 Fort Harrison was the site of a major National Guard training operation. In August regular army and national guards from the six states of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Illinois arrived at the camp for ten days of instruction and to engage in mimic warfare. Fifteen thousand National Guard troops participated with a thousand regular army troops acting as instructors. The joint maneuvers of national guards and regular army were held every two years. This view identified by the photographer as Headquarters appears to be from one of those training sessions.
The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order.
