Fort Benjamin Harrison was established as an Indiana National Guard training site in June of 1904 in Lawrence Township of Marion County. During the summer of 1910 Fort Harrison was the site of a major National Guard training operation. In August regular army and National Guards from the six states of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Illinois arrived at the camp for ten days of instruction and to engage in mimic warfare. Fifteen thousand troops participated and there were a thousand regular troops acting as instructors. Company B in this image was one of the eleven companies from the 10th Infantry that were there to instruct the troops. The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order. |
