Back of the Pits Annual 500 Mile International Sweepstakes, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, May 30, 1913

Description:	Infield activity can be seen in this view behind the pits and around the newly constructed five-story control center. Mechanics are standing by with their tools laid out and supplies of tires, oil, gas, and fire extinguishers. Across the track the spectators relax in the shade of the grandstand. The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order.
