Jefferson County Poor Farm, Circa 1915

Description: Elevated view of the buildings and grounds of the Jefferson County Poor Farm, near Madison, Indiana. The Ohio River can be seen in the distance and an automobile drives along a ridge known as Devils Backbone. This asylum for the poor inspired Will Carletons poem Over the Hill to the Poorhouse.
