George B. Dowsman was probably born in Ohio around 1842. In 1850, he was living in Huntington, Indiana, and later moved to Plymouth, Marshall County, Indiana where he enlisted in August 1862 as a private in Company H of the 75th Indiana Regiment. He died of disease in February 1863, at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In the letter, dated 23 October 1862, he writes from Frankfort, Kentucky, and describes the destruction of farmland due to the war. 2011.0087 |
