Letters Concerning the Release of Henry McLaughlin, Prisoner of War on Johnson Island, 1865

Description: Henry McLaughlin was forced into the Confederate Army and captured at the siege of Vicksburg. These letters show how his sister Susan Brown secured his release: Governor Mortons letter of introduction for Brown to President Lincoln, a letter to Brown by Edward Alexander Scovill on behalf of her brother, and a letter to the editor of the National Tribune explaining the entire story.
