Albert S. Underwood diary

Description: A private in the 9th Battery Indiana Light Artillery, Underwood writes in his diary from January 1 through December 31, 1864. He records his activities in camp, the companys travels on steamboats, and the skirmishes and battles in which he fought in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Missouri during the Civil War. He was killed in early 1865, along with most of his unit, when the steamer Eclipse exploded near Paducah, Kentucky.
