Description:	By order of Major General W.T. Sherman, Dayton explains the Military Division of the Mississippis next series of movements into the Carolinas. Major General Howard will occupy Columbia, South Carolina; General Slocum and General Kilpatrick will head towards Alston, South Carolina, to destroy the bridge there; and Colonel Poe, chief engineer, will direct the 1st Regiment of the Michigan Infantry to destroy the railroad from Columbia north to beyond Winnsboro, South Carolina. 600 ppi This Civil War Military Front collection was funded by LSTA.
