Laid out in 1874, Nappanees name comes from the Missisauga na-pa-ni flour, and was named after the Canadian town, Napanee, named for its gristmill. Another legend says it was named for an Indian maiden found knee-deep in mud, or nappanee. Message on postcard reads: Nappanee, Ind. Sept. 15, 1908 Dear Friend, I am felling fine. I was down to Winona week a go Sunday, am going to go to the fair, are you. You want to be good to your self. Good Bye. My best wishes to you.
