Schenk Residence, Overlooking the Ohio at Vevay, Indiana

Description: Ulysses P. “Hay King” Schenk (1811-1884) born in Neuchatel, Switzerland was an entrepreneur, shipping magnate, and family man. In Vevay he used the Ohio River to access southern markets. His ship the “Switzerland,” was sold to the United States during the Civil War and was used as a Union gunboat.
