Fire damage, Herman and Monnie Ashton home, Laconia, Indiana, 1948

Description: The home of Herman and Marjorie (Monnie) Ashton in Laconia, Indiana, following a fire resulting from an early morning explosion in March 1948. The blast was thought to have been caused by natural gas seeping into the home from a water well. The explosion blew the windows and doors from the building, which was completely destroyed by the fire. Mr. and Mrs. Ashton suffered serious burns and injuries and were hospitalized for a time, but survived the ordeal.
