The graduating class at the 12th annual commencement of the McLean Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 15, 1864. Standing in back at left is a young Helen Porter, daughter of Judge William A. Porter of Corydon, Indiana. Helen (1844-1940) went on to marry Corydon merchant Patrick Griffin and raise seven children in her family home near the towns courthouse square. The other women in the photo are, seated in front, left to right: Alma Sexton, Katie Espie, and Haddie Slaughter. Standing next to Helen at right is Jennie Wright. |
