Men felling trees and clearing brush from creek

Description: Six men fell trees and clear brush from Big Indian Creek near Corydon, Indiana in 1943. The creek-clearing project was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and supported by citizens of the community. Work began approximately one half mile downstream from the creeks juncture with Little Indian Creek, near where Maucks Mill used to stand. Oscar Crecelius served as foreman in charge of the project. Others who worked the first week included James Keller, Samuel Brengman, John Jennings, Paul Dyer, and John Humphrey. In addition to tree cutting, workers removed piles of driftwood, railroad ties, lumber and debris, and then followed by dredging the creek. Citizens contributed money to a fund that supported the project.
