Description: |
These small “yearbooks” of the Woman’s Literary Club of Corydon are programs that detail the meeting schedule and agendas for each club season, which began in autumn and continued through the following spring. Planning sessions for the season typically took place in September, with the first meeting held in early October. Meetings occurred every two weeks thereafter. The season typically ended in May or June with a celebratory picnic or other social gathering. The yearbooks provided club members with a concise and compact booklet that they could use to plan and prepare in advance for meetings throughout the year. In addition to meeting dates and the topics or works to be discussed, the booklets also note who the assigned hostesses and leaders were of each meeting, as well as what was required for a response to roll call. Response assignments ranged from quotations from a specific work, author, or other famous person, to the member’s favorite flower. Meeting times, however, were not provided as it was understood that the women met promptly at 2:30 p.m. Yearbooks in this collection include seasons 1909-1910 through 1955-1956, with only a few exceptions. Some examples have notes or remarks that a club member has written in the margins, and a few have newspaper clippings attached. These notes and articles typically are reflective of the works or subjects under study, or the assigned response. |
