Dr. Fred R. Bierly examines his grandson in this ca. 1940 photograph. Dr. Bierly was a practicing physician at Elizabeth for 43 years. Born in Posey Township, he was the son of Fred and Louise Englert Bierly. Prior to his medical career, Bierly taught school for several years in Harrison County. Throughout his life he also served three terms as Trustee of Posey Township. He graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1908 and established a medical practice in Elizabeth. He served as president of the Floyd County Medical Association for several years and was a member of the Harrison County Medical Association. Dr. Bierly died in 1951 at age 69. |
