Where mens trousers of all kinds and boys pants are made. There are 45 operations from cutting to shipping room. All at piece work and each person making or putting on one certain piece. One machine sews pocket and then cuts extra cloth off. Pants making is some stunt One half showing how made up Finished Cutting cloth, by pulling towards him, on wheel knife. The goods is first laid out - 48 to 80 pieces high, 80 yards long- and marked off from patterns then cut by electric knife. Marked so that there are but few scraps. 250 sewing machines. All set in long rows in well lighted rooms; individual adjustable light at each one 12,00 yards in spool All electric driven Spreading out seams by pressing Hand work too. Trimming, inspecting, tagging etc. Average 2 5/8 yards to pair. Around 26 pieces in a pair. Whole sale from $1.00 to $5.00 a pair. Make 400 styles Make 500,000 pair a year. Same workmanship goes into each pair. Blind stitch, you cant see it Sews the button holes, then cuts the hole. A machine sews buttons on Pressing Steam presses Legs are pressed here - fronts and backs on other. Girls slips cuffs in at same time |
