Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: Left: Reminder to wrap packages well, address them properly, and mail them early. Illustrations of 1957 Christmas stamps to support the fight against tuberculosis. Center: Icicles form at the top of the cartoon. A caption says that it is 9 degrees above zero. A large icicle breaks in half; the lower half falls, point down, onto Publics head. The broken half of the icicle indicates that the weather is warmer today than it had been recently. Public is wearing a heavy overcoat; he is bent in half from the impact of the icicle. Right: The sun blows fire at the icicle, causing it to break. It says that it is trying to warm the weather up, but that it cant do much this time of year. Public looks at a calendar showing it is the 12th day of the 12th month. A streetlamp is decorated with garland and a candy cane. A reminder to give charitable contributions this holiday season. A stocking hangs on a brick fireplace. Knechts elephant, wearing an overcoat and earmuffs, tells readers to be glad theyre not in New York City, where temperatures are below zero, snow has been heavy, and subway workers are on strike.
