The cabinet is full of cubbyholes representing every mayoral administration from 1914 to the present (1957). Papers inside each cubbyhole list that mayors accomplishments in city improvement and planning. Knechts elephant says that each mayor usually drew up new plans rather than continuing his predecessors work. Much accomplished in 8 years. 25 or more major projects. Elmendorf. Carried on after Bosses sudden death. Males. 1926-30. More plans. Start Mesker Zoo. Griese. Completes zoo. Establishes first City Planning Committee. New set plans. Dress. New set plans. World War II delays much. Dress Plaza, etc. Reichert. Still more planning. After war slow up for time. Dress. 1948. Short term 1948-49. Died 1949. Diekmann. Extensive plans. New rezoning, annexation, etc., etc. Roberts. More commission plans. Short Canal St. opened. Stadium started. Overpass built. Hartke. $7 million city water expansion. Extensive new plan projects for 20 years. No few old revived. For O.K. by joint city-county plan commission and council.
