Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: Memorial cartoon for James M. Cox, newspaper publisher and politician. On the right side of the cartoon there is a portrait of Cox, an older man wearing a dark suit and glasses. He is seated in a chair and holds a light-colored hat on his lap. He holds up a stack of newspapers he owned in one hand, as well as a list of television and radio stations. There is a brief listing of his accomplishments in the top right corner. In the bottom right corner there is a quote from Cox stating that truthful newspapers are necessary if a country is to remain free. On the left side of the cartoon, four blank spaces are left so that pictures from Coxs 1920 visit to Evansville may be inserted. Cox visited while running for president; Franklin Roosevelt was his running mate. The photographs to be included were portraits of Cox and Roosevelt, a picture of campaign signs on automobiles, and a picture of the two men walking in a parade; these photographs were taken by Knecht, who also worked as a photographer for The Evansville Courier.
Roosevelt, Franklin D. (Franklin Delano), 1882-1945; Cox, James M. (James Middleton), 1870-1957
