In the middle of the cartoon is a blank place for an image of the 40 living Civil War veterans in 8 nearby counties in 1935. 20 years later, none are now living, and the man on the left comments how they used to call it Decoration Day, but now call it Memorial Day. Their G.A.R. started it as Decoration Day, - now Memorial Day. We honor them and all who were in wars. 1989 Spanish-American War, 1917-18 first World War, 1941-45 World War II, 1950-54 the Korean war. Some of our family in everyone. Was any of our family with Davy Crocket? The 40 Civil War veterans in our 8 counties in 1935. As of 1945 68 of both sides Civil War alive. Only one now in Minnesota. Last G.A.R. meet in Indianapolis 1949 with 6 there. |
