Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: Top: The two candidates for Mayor of Evansville stand in a boxing ring, visible only from their waists down. The cartoon was apparently drawn before the results of the primary election were known, because the two men are not labeled. Instead, a space is left for a tag to be attached to each man. There are four tags in the bottom margin of the cartoon, one with each candidates name, along with instructions to the engravers telling them to insert the winners names into the cartoon. Next to the boxing ring, a man Public rings the bell but tells them not to start fighting until much closer to the election. Bottom left: An older woman representing Tri-State Shoppers registers for a contest in which free trips are being given away as prizes. A woman standing next to the registry book says that winning the contest would be a good Mothers Day Gift, if the winner happened to be a mother. Bottom center: Entries for Queen of the Tri-State Armed Forces Week close on Saturday; a man in a military uniform lifts a woman in a ball gown and tiara onto the top of a tank. Bottom left: A baseball announces that the local 3-I leagues season is beginning.
