Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: Evansville stands at the railing on Dress Plaza, the riverfront of the Ohio River at Evansville. He has thrown his arms wide open in welcome. A string of flags above his head proclaims it to be Navy Day. Out on the river, several boats surround an LST which has docked at the plaza. Its doors are open and people rush inside. Uncle Sam and the shades of Teddy Roosevelt and Robert Fulton watch the scene from the sky. Shades of New York and San Francisco state that there are many ships in their harbors as well. Uncle Sam says that only 10 LSTs built in Evansville were lost in the war (out of 167).
