A black walnut found imbedded in bark in a piece of silver swamp soft maple when cut at Servel Wood Mill. The nut was disclosed when part of bark was moved from over it. Sketch shows how bark with nut remained. The saw just missed the nut. Nut must have been in tree for many years. - From Neal C. Byer, Foreman of Wood Mill at Servel. Green briar root grown on Leon Westfall Farm Somerville Ind. From Dan Branson Evansville When thoroughly seasoned it becomes hard as rock and will not burn. Therefore makes genuine briar pipes. Finger nail slipped under lifted cap and white and yellow poured out. - John Herchelbeck - Dale, Ind. Two kinds of mulberry trees from same stump, growing beneath rear part of house of Mrs. Laura Tullis W.
